Bike EXIF | 6 Customs from Powerbrick

Share

It’s no easy feat to consistently deliver bikes that stop us in our tracks, but the crew at Powerbrick seems to do it with surgical precision. The Dutch workshop, led by designer Timothy Somers, has become a dominant force in the European scene, blending cutting-edge technology with an uncompromisingly aggressive aesthetic. Their work is so consistently sharp that they not only earned an honorable mention in 2023 but also took the top spot, clinching Bike EXIF’s Top Custom of 2024 with their Harley-Davidson Pan America.

While they first carved out their reputation by transforming brutish BMW K-series ‘flying bricks’ into razor-sharp café racers, their portfolio has expanded to prove their style is anything but one-dimensional. And for those who want to do more than just admire their work, you’re in luck. Vengeance, Powerbrick’s BMW K1100RS, is currently live on Bike EXIF Auctions, offering a rare chance to own a piece of their legacy.

Let’s take a closer look at some of our favorite builds from the Powerbrick workshop that showcase their incredible talent.

Harley-Davidson Pan America

What happens when you strip an adventure bike of its world-crossing intentions? Powerbrick answered that question by creating the streetfighter that Harley-Davidson never did. With support from Harley-Davidson Rotterdam and Amsterdam, Timothy set out to reshape the chunky Pan America into a gnarly urban brawler. The mission was twofold: to build a stunning one-off machine and to simultaneously develop a range of bolt-on parts under their sub-brand, CNCPT Moto, designed to look like OEM components.

The visual transformation is stunning, achieved by cleverly ditching the top half of the stock fairing and relocating the TFT dash and electronics onto a custom bracket. This single change gives the bike a slammed, aggressive front end. Out back, the bulky stock subframe was replaced with a bespoke bolt-on unit from Nius Moto, which supports a set of 3D-printed carbon-fiber composite panels. The new tail section is impossibly tight, housing the stock taillight and electronics with millimeter-perfect precision.

While the potent ‘Revolution Max’ engine and adaptive suspension remain, the finishing details elevate the build. Spoked wheels from the Pan America Special were fitted with road-biased Pirelli Angel GT II tires. A full stainless steel exhaust system was fabricated by Nius Moto, terminating in an aggressive Powerbrick muffler that unleashes the V-twin’s voice. Finished in Aston Martin’s ‘Spirit Silver’ with bold red accents, this build wasn’t just a styling exercise—it was a statement that earned its place as our favorite custom of 2024. [MORE]

Vengeance’ & ‘Lenience: BMW K1100RS

Building one world-class custom is hard enough; building two identical-but-opposite bikes at the same time is a true power move. Dubbed ‘Vengeance’ and ‘Lenience,’ this pair of 1994 BMW K1100RS builds features staggering attention to detail and a quality that Timothy aimed to be “better-than-factory.” Both bikes received engine overhauls with ported heads, enhanced timing, and a hydraulic clutch conversion for a more direct feel.

The standout feature of these builds is the seven-part subframe, machined from a mammoth aluminum billet to create a perfectly clean and incredibly strong rear end that houses all the electronics. Not to be overshadowed, the part upgrades are extensive and identical across both bikes. BMW S1000RR forks were fitted up front, while adjustable shocks from TFX Suspension control the rear.

Billet aluminum wheels from AC Schnitzer, which were originally designed for a BMW R nineT, required custom-made adapters to fit the K-series hub. A stainless steel four-into-one system from MAD Exhausts is capped with Powerbrick mufflers.

The bikes are distinguished by their inverted Marlboro-inspired liveries, executed flawlessly by Royal Kustom Works. The ambitious project demonstrated the growing strength of the Powerbrick team and their absolute mastery over their chosen platform. [MORE]

CNCPT Moto ‘Cloud 9’ R nineT

What happens when two of the Netherlands’ top builders join forces? You get the neo-futuristic vision that is the ‘Cloud 9’ R nineT. A collaboration between Powerbrick’s Timothy Somers and Arjan van den Boom of Ironwood Motorcycles, this bike was built under their joint CNCPT Moto banner. Far from a simple custom, it’s a conceptual machine designed to look like it teleported from the year 2084.

The bike is defined by its illusory monocoque body, which was first shaped in traditional clay before being digitized and 3D printed in ASA thermoplastic. The design is full of wild details, from the custom aluminum fuel cell hidden beneath the bodywork to the unique see-through airbox design on the right side, which reveals a DNA filter in a 3D-printed housing.

The forks were upgraded with hydraulic Matris cartridges and stunning carbon fiber tubes from CeraCarbon. A TFX monoshock controls the rear, while lightweight 17-inch carbon wheels from Rotobox are shod in ultra-sticky Pirelli Diablo Superbike slicks.

The slimline seat pad, upholstered in leather and Alcantara by Silvermachine, completes the futuristic silhouette. With its ghostly silver paint and pops of color, the Cloud 9 is a breathtaking look at the future. [MORE]

BMW K1100 RS Café Racer

This is one of the builds that cemented the Powerbrick name in the annals of K-series customs, transforming the quintessential 90s German sport tourer into a low-slung, modern café racer. The project was a masterclass in combining high-tech manufacturing with a keen designer’s eye. Timothy’s background in industrial design is evident in the bike’s clean, flowing lines, which run uninterrupted from the Koso Thunderbolt headlight, over the tank, and to the tip of the tail cowl.

The bike’s aggressive stance comes from a heavily revised chassis, featuring a complete BMW S1000RR front end with Bitubo cartridges, all held in Powerbrick’s own black-anodized triple trees. The rear Paralever swingarm was extended by 15mm and connected to a high-spec YSS G-Racing monoshock. Stopping power is equally impressive, with Brembo HPK GP4-RS monobloc calipers grabbing Serie Oro discs, all plumbed with Venhill brake lines.

The venerable inline-four was meticulously overhauled and boosted to an estimated 130 hp with ported intakes, top-spec Bosch EV14 injectors, and a barking 4-into-1 stainless steel exhaust. A new electrical system was wired around a Bluetooth-enabled Motogadget mo.unit blue, keeping the electronics package clean and modern. It’s a build that honors the bike’s “flying brick” heart while giving it the soul of a modern fighter. [MORE]

CNCPT Moto ‘Mach 9’ R nineT

After the wild ‘Cloud 9’ concept, CNCPT Moto followed up with a slightly more subdued—but no less impressive—R nineT café racer. Dubbed Mach 9, this build was designed to be a “comfortable road warrior” that retained the custom looks of the concept bike but was fully usable and rideable on the street. To achieve this, the team kept the R nineT’s original fuel tank but swapped nearly everything else to create a clean, muscular machine.

The bike still wears stunning Rotobox Bullet carbon fiber wheels and a top-tier suspension package, featuring forks with CeraCarbon uppers and a Matris cartridge kit, paired with a TFX Suspension rear shock. A stubby 3D-printed subframe supports a gorgeous seat from Silver Machine, while a Powerbrick headlight nacelle cleans up the front end.

Performance is boosted by DNA pod filters and a custom stainless steel exhaust system, fabricated by MAD Exhausts with a retro sportbike-inspired end can. The bike’s profile is drastically altered by a generous belly pan from AC Schnitzer. Finished in a sharp black and silver design, ‘Mach 9’ is a powerful fusion of Ironwood’s hard-edged stance and Powerbrick’s precision engineering. [MORE]

BMW K1100RS

Just when we thought we had the Powerbrick formula figured out, they evolved. This K1100RS takes its signature style to the next level with the addition of a stunning, multi-faceted full fairing that feels both classic and futuristic. 3D-printed from a tough carbon compound material, the fairing integrates seamlessly with the iconic scalloped K-series tank, housing a Koso LED headlight and a Motogadget dash on a custom CNC-machined bracket.

This build showcases truly top-shelf componentry, representing a new level of investment for the workshop. The front end boasts a BMW S1000RR fork fitted with high-performance Öhlins NIX30 cartridges. But the real show-stoppers are the jaw-dropping forged carbon wheels from Rotobox, which dramatically reduce unsprung weight and look incredible thanks to the bike’s single-sided swingarm. A custom-built TFX Suspension shock handles duties at the rear.

The engine was fully overhauled and ported, breathing through custom DNA filters and exhaling through a gnarly hand-welded stainless steel exhaust. The centerpiece of the chassis is the incredible subframe, machined from a solid 220-pound billet of aluminum to create a lightweight but strong foundation for the tail. Finished in a tasteful metalflake grey, this machine proves Powerbrick isn’t just repeating a formula—they’re perfecting it. [MORE]
